About the event

Log Cabin Course

May 29 - June 2, 2024

Join us for a five-day workshop where we will cover the basics of starting a log cabin and the details of the "Norwegian Notch". The workshop will take place at our wilderness lodge, which can be reached by boat along the Sask River. During your stay, you can enjoy our cozy rustic cabins and all meals will be provided. We come from generations of living on the land and building our homes with the resources in our backyards. This workshop is a great opportunity for us to share our knowledge gathered over the years on how to live off-grid and build log cabins.

Your instructors are:

Michela Carriere for Chainsaw safety and basics. She is the owner/operator of Aski, with a lifetime of living in the woods.

Solomon Carriere for Logging and Norwegian notch basics. He is Cree- Metis with a lifetime of experience hunting, fishing, and building cabins in the bush with minimal tools.

Léo Claret for Construction, logging, engineering, hand tools, and more. Leo studied civil engineering in France and spent years in Norway learning traditional Norwegian methods of building homes. He is a dedicated and talented construction worker.

These five days we will cover Safety, Logging, Planning, peeling, log selection, and making notches.

About Us:

We are an adventure lodge run by a family and located 55 km away from Cumberland House, SK, on the Saskatchewan River Delta. Our location is only accessible by boat during the summer season. We offer a variety of adventures and provide shared cabin accommodations, home-cooked dinners, and a sauna. Since we are off-grid, we use wood stoves for warmth, collect water from the river, use outhouses, and rely on hunting, fishing, and gardening for our food.

How to get here:

Please arrive on May 28, Wednesday at 6 pm, which is the evening before the event. The parking spot is located at Dale Martin's boat launch, which is 16.5 km past EB Campbell. If you start seeing signs for 20 km and higher, it means you have gone too far and missed the trail.
