What is a Marathon Canoe Training Camp?

Our family has been paddling all over Canada for generations, from York boats to pro boats. At Aski’s Marathon Canoe Camp we share our knowledge and love for paddling with you. This camp is an opportunity to start your paddling season and challenge yourself with intense paddling. We will exchange ideas on paddling techniques such as strokes, buoy turns, shallow water paddling, trimming your canoe, portaging, and racing against others. We will be training and sharing our passions with other marathon canoe enthusiasts, it's a wonderful community to be part of! Bring your excitement for canoeing, a paddle, a canoe (or share one), and paddle intensely for the long weekend in May.

  • Bring your own canoe, life jacket, paddle, and some snacks.

  • The motorboat will be at “Dale Martin’s Landing” at 4:00 pm on Friday May 16th, if you want to unload some of your gear. You then begin the New York downstream 3 hour stage race to Big Eddy Lodge. Supper will be waiting for you when you arrive.

Big Eddy Lodge and Aski Holistic Adventures

We are a family-run lodge and adventure guiding company located 55 km from Cumberland House, SK, located on the Saskatchewan River. We are accessible by boat in the summer, snowmobile or fat tire bike in the winter. We offer wilderness adventures, with shared cabin accommodations, home-cooked dinners, and a sauna. We are off-grid, therefore we have no internet, wood stoves, haul water from the river, use outhouses, and hunt/fish/garden for our food. We have an emergency communication system. This is our family home steeped in Cree-Metis culture and we invite you to be part of the Marathon Canoe family too!

Start:

All the food will be provided, camping spaces, amenities, and the beloved sauna. The motorboat will be at “Dale Martin’s Landing” at 4:00 pm on Friday, May 16th, if you want to unload some of your gear. You then begin the New York downstream 3 hour stage race to Big Eddy Lodge. Supper will be waiting for you when you arrive.

We will meet you at Dale Martin's parking location; 16.6 km from Thunder Rapids on Highway #123, with a motorboat to haul a few of your supplies. (pro tip, on highway 123, if you start seeing signs for 20km and higher, you have gone too far and missed the trail, turn back and search again, and we will be there). You can park your car and launch your boat and start paddling, 31 km. If you miss the 4:00 motorboat for your gear, then you need to paddle all your gear in. When you arrive at the lodge you will be treated to a home-cooked meal and sauna.
