About the event
Aski Canoe Camp 2024
Welcome to Aski Holistic Adventures' annual spring canoe camp. This is a great opportunity to get out early and start paddling, participate in some fun canoe races, and learn advanced techniques from World Champion Marathon Canoe expert Solomon Carriere. Bring your own canoe and we take care of the rest! Featuring the CH 250 canoe race to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Cumberland House!
What is Aski Canoe Training Camp?
Our family has been paddling all over Canada for generations, from York boats to pro boats. At Aski Canoe Camp we share our knowledge and love for paddling with you. this camp is an opportunity to start the season with a nice long paddle on the Saskatchewan River. We will exchange ideas on paddling techniques such as strokes, buoy turns, shallow water paddling, trimming your canoe properly, and racing against others. We will be training and sharing our passions with other marathon canoe enthusiasts, it's a wonderful community to be part of! Bring your excitement for canoeing, a paddle, a canoe (or share one), and paddle intensely for the long weekend in May.
All the food will be provided, camping space, amenities, and the beloved sauna.
- Bring your own canoe to paddle 35 km down the beautiful Saskatchewan River to Big Eddy Lodge.
- The motorboat will be at “Dale Martin’s Landing” at 4:00 pm beginning of the long weekend to carry any extra goods. You paddle into the camp 4 hours downstream from Dale Martens. Supper will be waiting for you when you arrive.
Big Eddy Lodge and Aski Holistic Adventures
We are a family-run lodge and adventure guiding company located 55km from Cumberland House, SK, on the Saskatchewan River Delta. We are accessible only by boat in the summer. We offer all sorts of adventures, with shared cabin accommodations, home-cooked dinners, and a sauna. We are off-grid, therefore we have wood stoves, haul water from the river, use outhouses, and hunt/fish/garden for our food. This is our family home steeped in Cree-Metis culture and we invite you to be part of our family too!
Where to start:
We will meet you at the Dale Martin's parking location with a boat to haul your supplies and a voyageur canoe. (pro tip, on highway 123, if you start seeing signs for 20km and higher, you have gone too far and missed the trail, turn back and search again, and we will wait) you can park your car and launch your boat and start paddling, 35 km. When you arrive at the lodge you will be treated to a home-cooked meal and sauna.
Activities:
- Workshop on skills from Solomon Carriere,
- Long-distance canoe with the group
